Our Commitment

CareConnect is committed to ensuring that our caregiver training content is accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We strive to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and the principles of inclusive design, consistent with Zimbabwe's Disabled Persons Act [Chapter 17:01] and the country's commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), which Zimbabwe ratified in 2013.

What We Do

We have implemented the following measures to support accessibility:

  • Semantic HTML: All pages use proper headings, landmarks, and structure to support screen readers and assistive technologies.
  • Keyboard navigation: Interactive elements (buttons, links, forms) are fully operable with a keyboard alone.
  • Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
  • Responsive design: Content adapts to different screen sizes, including mobile devices commonly used in rural Zimbabwe.
  • Text alternatives: Meaningful alt text is provided for images. Decorative images are marked appropriately.
  • Form labels: All form inputs have associated labels for screen reader compatibility.
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus outlines are provided for all interactive elements.
  • Plain language: Training content is written in clear, plain English, appropriate for a broad range of literacy levels.

Known Limitations

While we aim for full accessibility, we acknowledge the following limitations:

  • Third-party videos: Some embedded video content from external platforms may not have captions or audio descriptions. We encourage content creators to add captions where possible.
  • PDF certificates: Generated certificates may have limited screen-reader support. Users who need an accessible format can request one via the contact form.
  • Older browsers: Some visual features may not render correctly on very old browsers. The core content remains accessible.

Low-Bandwidth Considerations

Recognising that many users in rural Zimbabwe access the internet with limited bandwidth, we have optimised our site for fast loading. Text-based training content loads first, and video content is loaded on demand. The core training material is fully usable without video.

  • The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), ratified by Zimbabwe in 2013.
